- Shari Guthrie
Education - Grace University (Omaha), Iowa Western Community College (Council Bluffs), Kirkwood (Cedar Rapids), and the University of Iowa, from which I eventually graduated.
I am blessed to be starting my twenty second year (1985) of teaching Pre-K and Kindergarten at Cedar Valley Christian School. My family consists of a husband, three grown sons, three daughters-in-law, and one grandson. I enjoy spending time with my family, gardening, cooking, writing poetry and short stories, making music, and traveling in my free time.
First Grade
- Linda Nixon
Education - Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education - Truman State University Masters of Art in Elementary Administration - Truman State University Linda has taught first grade at Cedar Valley since 1999. She first started teaching in public schools in Cedar Rapids for fourteen years. Linda is married to Bill and they have two children and three grandchildren.
Second Grade

Education - Bachelor of Arts in Education K-8 - Iowa State University Emphasis in Reading/Language Arts; Coaching Endorsement
Married to Adam (secondary math teacher). Lisa enjoys running, ultimate Frisbee, reading, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends.
Third Grade
- Debbie Lord
Education – Bachelor of Science – Mount Mercy College
Master of Arts in Educational Counseling – Iowa State University
She taught for Cedar Rapids Community Schools for eight years and has been at Cedar Valley for the last ten years. She is married to Dan. They have a son Zachary, daughter Julianne, two cats and two guinea pigs!
Fourth Grade
- Sue Menken
Education - B.A. from UNI with a Special Education Endorsement. Basic and Advanced training in Orton Multisensory Language Training. She is currently working toward her "Fellow" in the Orton-Gillingham Society which helps dyslexic students.
She taught in a self-contained classroom for 3.5 years working with children who had behavioral problems in Des Moines, after they moved she taught K-12 Resource for a year in Deep River-Millersburg prior to having children.
She is married to Roger Menken and has two sons who are 18 and 23 and are both attending John Brown University this fall. While homeschooling her sons she tutored and also worked for the Marion Home School Assistance program for six years. She has been at Cedar Valley since 2006. "I love this place! People are so friendly and helpful!" When not teaching she serves as a board member and the newsletter editor of the International Dyslexic Iowa Board, participates in a book club, enjoys biking, and quilting, and is adjusting to the quietness in her home. She and her husband worked with Senior Highers at their church for six years and she enjoys people of all ages.
Fifth Grade

Education – Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (K-8) – Iowa State University
Level I certification as an educational therapist – national Institute of Learning Disabilities
Rachel started teaching fifth grade at CVCS in 2005. Prior to this she worked part-time for a year as an educational therapist at Kansas city Christian School and was involved in home schooling her children for nine years. Before having children, she taught preschool for three years.
Her family, studying God’s word, gardening, cooking, dark chocolate, coffee with cream, and sunbeams are a few of her favorite things.
Sixth Grade
- Wendy Cronbaugh
Education -Bachelors of Arts - University of Northern Iowa
Masters in School Counseling - Drake University. Wendy started teaching Sixth grade at CVCS in 1996.
Elementary Physical Education
- Tracy Jandik
Tracy has been teaching physical education at Cedar Valley since 1996. She has coached high school and middle school soccer programs for the Cedar Rapids Community School District (1988-2004) both boys and girls programs. Tracy is married to Dean and has three children, Michele, Michael and Cody and two grandchildren.
Private Piano
- Laurie Sloterdyk
Education - Bachelor of Music Education - University of Northern Iowa
Laurie taught vocal music in the public school system for 5 years. She has been teaching private piano for 16 years. She has been blessed to be at CVCS since 2004.
Her husband of 20 years is Aric. They have two sons, Aaron and Luke, ages 12 and 8. In her free time she loves to sing, read, run with her
dog, Zoe, and go boating with the family.
Resource
- Terri Iversen
Terri Iversen has taught at Cedar Valley for nearly 10 years, first in the third grade half time with Mrs. Lord and then as a reading resource teacher for the primary grades. She uses the Orton Gillingham method of reading and supervises DIBELS evaluation of grades K-6. Working with students individually as well as collaborating with Mrs. Andrew in the resource room brings her much joy. She lives with her husband, Jim, while her three sons attend various colleges in MN and WI.

Bachelor of Arts in Education K-8 - Iowa State University.
Married to Lisa (the 2nd grade teacher), Adam enjoys hanging out with and playing games with friends and family. He also likes playing sports like ultimate Frisbee and soccer.

Rhonda Finley - Spanish 1,2,3, & 4 Education -University of Iowa - Spanish; Bachelor of Arts in Education K-8 - Asbury College.Rhonda taught 2nd grade for 3 years before staying home to raise my boys. She has taught Spanish part-time since 1999 at Cedar Valley. Like Craig Foote, she loves the Hawks and Cubs. In addition She sings in a 70 member barbershop group in Iowa City and loves to read and do stained glass when not spending time with her three sons.

Jan Todd - French 1,2,4; Athletic Director,Testing Coordinator
Education - Mt. Mercy College, Cedar Rapids and Université Laval, Québec (Québec) Canada majoring in French.
Jan worked for seventeen years as a volunteer Leader for La Leche League International in various capacities. She has worked at Cedar Valley in many volunteer capacities since her four children began attending the school in 1985. She has taught H.S. French since 1992. Since 1993 she has been the Athletic Director for CVCS and Testing Coordinator since 2000. Jan and her husband of 37 years, Len, enjoy spending time with their four adult children and seven grandchildren.

Tristan Guthrie - H.S. Bible, 7/8th Boys' PE, 7/8th Boys' Bible, 7th Boys' Health Education - Bachelors in Science - Emmaus Bible College - Biblical Studies Masters in Theology - Dallas Theological Seminary I am the full time youth director at Cedar Valley Bible Church and a part time teacher at CVCS. I attended Cedar Valley Christian School from Kindergarten through the 8th grade after which I graduated from Alburnett High School. I enjoy reading, spending time with youth, and watching/participating in different sports. I married my high school sweetheart, Robin, after we had dated for 5 years. As of July 2007 we have been married for 8 years and we have one child. My son, Noah,turned 2 in May of 2007.
- Steve Russell - Science, Algebra, Keyboarding Education - Bachelors degree from Southern Illinois University in Biological Sciences Masters degree from University of Iowa in Science Education Taught science at Harding Middle School for 35 years and coached boys and girls basketball for 25 years. Taught science, Algebra I, and Transition Math at Cedar Valley for 5 years. Married to Kay and have 4 children and 5 granddaughters. Hobbies: Reading, nature study, antiques shopping

I have been a teacher at Cedar Valley Christian School since 1993. I also teach Driver Education, and have been fortunate to coach students in basketball and soccer for a number of years.
My interests outside of school revolve around my family. My wife is also a teacher and we have three children who attend Cedar Valley. Our family loves the Hawkeyes, Cubs and Vikings, probably in that order. I enjoy a wide variety of athletics, including basketball, biking, swimming, weight training. I am passionate about reading: especially history, religion, politics and athletics. Our family has been extremely blessed by our relationship with the people of Cedar Valley Christian School.

Sarah teaches high school literature (introductory, world, American, and British, as well as AP Language and Composition and AP Literature and Composition. She also teaches various electives, including Experiencing Shakespeare, Creative Writing, and Yearbook.
She enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, watching racing (all kinds), and sledding with her dogs. In my spare time, I read and scrapbook.

Raised on a farm in South Dakota. Birthday 9-17-1944 Married 40 years; two children, five grandchildren.

Jeff Pospisil - Assistant Principal, Automechanics, PE, High School Math Education – Bachelor of Arts Math and Secondary Education - Coe College (1994)Master of Arts in Education - University of Northern Iowa (2002) I began teaching at Cedar Valley part-time in 1991, moved to a full-time position in 1994. I am a high school math teacher as well as the Assistant Principal of the school. My wife Jennifer and I have 4 children, Sam, Abby, Jessie and AJ. We attend Cedar Valley Bible Church and are very involved in the church and school. Jennifer and I coach the Varsity Volleyball team and Dick Hodge and I coach the Varsity Boys Basketball team.

Dick and his wife, Patsy, have two daughters and 7 grandchildren (4 girls, 3 boys). He enjoyed coaching girls’ basketball and softball at Benton community for many years (when he was younger!)

Before becoming a stay-at-home mom Cari enjoyed several years of working with high risk teenagers. Now that her kids are in school she has enjoyed returning to her passion of music. She is married to Kelly and they have two children.

Katie Peterson - Art

Katie has been teaching art part time at Cedar Valley since the fall of 2003. She teaches 7th and 8th grade art, 2nd grade art and high school Introduction to Art. Katie is excited to bring the visual arts to the secondary level at Cedar Valley. She is married and has two children.
