We know that private Christian education comes at a financial cost. However, there are many financial aid options and a variety of saving opportunities available.

Education Savings Account (ESA):

Educational Savings Accounts (ESAs) CAN be used at Cedar Valley Christian School! (*Please note that it is NOT eligible for preschool.) Find out more on our website HERE.

STO Scholarships:

Cedar Valley Christian School is part of the Heart of Iowa School Tuition Organization (STO), which is a needs based scholarship program. The State legislature has approved $12.5 million in tax credits for the program this year. (Donors give to the program and receive a generous tax credit that is applied to their state taxes.) Accredited, non-public schools who are in an STO organization, are eligible for an allotment that is determined by enrollment figures. This year we are raising over $100,000 in tuition assistance for eligible CVCS families. To qualify, your family income must be no more than four times the federal poverty level for your family size.

Click Here for the 2023-2024 STO Application. Bring your application to the office and attach a signed copy of your 2021 Federal Tax Return, pages 1 and 2. Deadline for applications is June 1, 2023, and the income eligibility limits can be found here.

Non-STO Financial Aid:

If you are in need of financial aid for next year beyond the STO funding, you may also apply through FACTS Grant and Aid Assessment.  Apply online at https://online.factsmgt.com/signin/3ZHHH.  When your FACTS application is complete and you have sent in all of the required documentation, you will receive a letter explaining the additional amount that will be discounted from your tuition for next year.  There is a fee for this application paid directly to FACTS at the time of the application.

TRANSPORTATION REIMBURSEMENT

The nonpublic transportation reimbursement claim is the way by which parents of children attending a non-public school may get reimbursed for at least a part of their transportation costs. The funding for this program is appropriated by the legislature from the State of Iowa’s general fund. If you live beyond two miles from the school, you may be eligible for this significant reimbursement from the state . Pre-Kindergarten is not eligible for transportation reimbursement.

POTENTIAL TAX SAVINGS

With recent tax law changes by the federal government, the role 529 savings plans play in education funding has been expanded. Under the new tax law, up to $10,000 per year from a 529 plan can be used for K-12 private school tuition. You may also be able to take advantage of the Iowa Tuition and Textbook Credit for each dependent child who attends a private, accredited Iowa school. Consult your tax advisor.

"When we moved to Cedar Rapids from out of state with our middle school aged children, we prayed for the best school for our children. Without a doubt, God led us to Cedar Valley. We couldn’t have been more impressed with the teachers, coaches and staff. They all carried on the values that we as a family strive to live by. Honesty, respect for all, compassion and integrity were demonstrated and taught every day. When our children started college, they would tell us the comments made by their professors about the exemplary writing and reasoning skills our children had. Those were the skills taught at Cedar Valley. Financially it was a sacrifice, but one we’d never hesitate to do again." K. Banowetz, CV mom
